Haiti Vs. Hatey

300px-united_states_louisiana_purchase_states

Let me put it in financial terms for immoral wingnuts: We owe Haiti for the greatest legal real estate deal we ever made. Research it yourself. Napoleon sold New Orleans to us b/c he failed to re-enslave Haiti, essential to his imagined sugar empire & threw in the rest for free. Time to thank Haiti, w/it’s tiny band of courageous rebels, for defeating the mighty armies of Napoleon Bonaparte, who then gave up & ‘sold’ us, @ $3/acre, the 14 states (12 of which are reliably red & redder) that unite the United States . Now shut up and donate $10. Text HAITI to 90999. You will receive a confirmation request from the Red Cross that you wish to donate $10 to Haiti Relief, and a link to a website.

Letters to the Editor: Gratitude for Firefighters

firefighters

As the flames kiss your back door, would a firefighter refuse service, claiming you have a pre-existing condition (drought)? Never.

Pamela

Pasadena

——————–

Where are the “tea baggers” now that we need them?

The bumbling government, once again, is launching another bound-to-fail program with the massing of firefighters to battle the Station fire. Why save someone else’s house from destruction; it’s not mine? The fire departments are just more of the socialist governmental programs designed to take away what little freedom we have left.

Why can’t we just burn in peace?

Shiny Object Diverts GOP’s Attention, Again

While we’re out here making calls to congress about the energy bill, and insisting members support real health care reform, another shiny object has diverted the GOP, or what was once the GOP. This time it is a trumpeted article in Vanity Fair about the failed McCain/Palin Presidential Campaign. Apparently, there is much bitterness now that they have finally discovered what we knew to be true all along. Rather than waste fresh words, let me once again simply paste in a tid-bit from our fair and balanced source about the sources discussing sources.

From the ‘article’ titled:

Palin Vanity Fair Article Reignites Feud Among Former Campaign Aides

…The article also claims that top aides worried about Palin’s “mental state” during the campaign — with some suggesting Palin was suffering from postpartum depression following the recent birth of her son, Trig.

On Tuesday, editor of The Weekly Standard Bill Kristol — who once served as an informal adviser to McCain — accused former campaign manager Steve Schmidt of spreading the idea to other campaign aides.

“In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt,” Kristol wrote in his magazine blog posted Tuesday.

But Schmidt vehemently denied the charge Tuesday and lambasted Kristol for his work as chief of staff to former Vice President Dan Quayle.

“I’m sure John McCain would be president today if only Bill Kristol had been in charge of the campaign,” Schmit reportedly wrote in an e-mail to Politico.

“After all, his management of [former Vice President] Dan Quayle’s public image as his chief of staff is still something that takes your breath away,” Schmidt continued.

Enjoy. This can’t last forever, can it?

You Connect the Dots: a report on a report regarding the death of Billy Mays (no, not Willie Mays)

First it is with great surprise and unintentional callousness that I post this glib assessment.  I haven’t found the time to post anything lately, and this is surely not a worthy comeback.

But today, out of solipsistic curiosity, I clicked on the link about the death*, this weekend in Florida**, of the only product pitchman I recognize, Billy Mays (’Mr. OxiClean’ to me).  I had to share.  While really, really important events take place in the world, it has been horrifying, fascinating & (when needed) reassuring to watch the wingnuts unravel over the election  of Barack Obama, by the (smarter) people, for the (smarter) people.  Props for their partisan dedication to wingnut-ness at every level, for example, by their Big-Fat-Mouthed GOP-Boss Rush, who this week blamed  GOP Governor Sanford’s, um, fall from space, as excusably (of course – duh!) stemming from the actions of President Obama & his relentless tenure.

Back to it – yes, I began with a point.  The above-mentioned link I clicked on went to a Fox News site and I chose to ‘go there’.  Let me just yank out and repost here what struck me about the ‘article’. That is, how these people ‘make’ news with an emphasis on ’stories’ by empowering their avid base with all the tools needed to fly off to wing-nut land on their own libertarian terror-fueled power, calling for fascism at the same time they decry it.  Amazing.  See if you get there too.

From “‘Infomercial King’ Billy Mays Found Dead in Home”

“His ubiquitousness and thumbs-up, in-your-face pitches won Mays plenty of fans. People line up at his personal appearances for autographed color glossies, and strangers stop him in airports to chat about the products.

“I enjoy what I do,” Mays told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. “I think it shows.”

Mays was on board a US Airways flight that blew out its front tires as it landed at a Tampa airport on Saturday, MyFOXTampa.com reported.

US Airways spokesman Jim Olson said that none of the 138 passengers and five crew members were injured in the incident, but several passengers reported having bumps and bruises, according to the station.

Authorities have not said whether Mays’ death was related to the incident.”

You make the call readers.  Fly or die? An OxiClean death or something more airporty?  Who were the strangers who stopped Mays ‘to chat about the products’?  Didn’t a few of the 9/11 hijackers attend flight schools in Florida?  And didn’t Florida allegedly vote for Obama in 2008?  I’m just saying…

*Next week, the hundreds of thousands of annual deaths. Yes, deaths.

**In Florida.

Yo, Senator Shelby! Here’s The Proof You’ve Been Waiting For.

Barack Obama's Natal Chart, Proving his Birth in Honolulu

Barack Obama’s Natal Chart Proving his Birth in Honolulu

How could you question this?  It’s right here on the Internets.  I have been learning the Googles,  and Ted Stevens assured me it arrived through the proper truth tubes his contractor installed.  You can’t make stuff like this up, and images can’t be altered on a computer for heaven’s sake.*

Just a tinsy bit more on Senator Richard Shelby’s recent hypocrisy:

In late 2008 he opposed a Federal government bridge loan for US-owned auto companies, saying:

“We don’t need government – governmental subsidies for manufacturing in this country. It’s the French model, it’s the wrong road. We will pay for it. The average American taxpayer is going to pay dearly for this, if I’m not wrong.”

However, foreign-owned auto manufacturers Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai received approximately $788 million in government subsidies in the cities of Vance, Lincoln, Huntsville, and Montgomery in Shelby’s home state of Alabama, according to analysis by Good Jobs First. Good Jobs First executive Director Greg LeRoy pointed out that “while proposed federal aid to the Big 3 would take the form of a loan, the vast majority of subsidies to foreign auto plants were taxpayer gifts such as property and sales tax exemptions, income tax credits, infrastructure aid, land discounts, and training grants.

I Vote For Full Nudity In the Oval Office

Andy Card should apologize for his own stupidity. He said that President Obama is disrespecting the Constitution (insert irony) and Democracy (again, twisted irony) by not wearing a jacket in the Oval Office. He should apologize with his underpants around his ankles, because that is how I will always imagine him (and real tiny too). Quite simply,

If Jackets & Ties Made the Bush Administration Do

What It Did, Then I Vote For Full Nudity In the Oval

Office and on Air Force One Immediately!

What Murderous Scheme Were They Cooking Up Here?

What Murderous Scheme Were They Cooking Up Here?

How long do we have to put up with this graceless lack of patriotism from GOP has-beens, their cynical predictions of failure for we the people, President Obama & his administration, dis-respecting the will of the majority, a hopeful majority, hurling inane insults &  the same lame fear-mongering we rejected in November?  Two words of advice to Andy Card and Dick Cheney, SHUT UP!  The country is in crisis, you jokers caused it and now you distract the A.D.D. media who should not, for one moment, publicize this petty crap. Andy and Dick do not live in my country, the one I helped change on the ground. They are capital, we are labor.  As Lincoln said,

“Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.”

Snap! Obama got that right. We stood up first, took off the ties, rolled up our sleeves, put on the boots and the fruit came pouring in. So Andy, the best you can do is look a fool and attribute national values to Obama’s clothing, to the items he is not wearing? And Dickster, you proclaim President Obama’s lack of national values  are clear because he has pledged to respect the US Constitution?  What a wimp you are, to have had to wipe your bald pate off with the founding documents, as if they’d gone missing, in order to have your way.  No, you could never play by the rules and get any job done.  You do not have a single drop of greatness in your blood, and that is as it will remain. I am still confused about WTF you people were trying to do, and how you f**ked it up so stupendously with all that bad-ass experience you had. It must be hard for you to live in a country whose citizens turned on a dime and saw, 180 degrees away from where ever you were standing, their country. Over there, where the young organizer, jacketless, was describing that what he saw in his country, was what he hoped he would see. This country had shaped his family and that family valued education, they cultivated a wisdom  beyond years, and a comprehensive world view untroubled by complexity but with a comfort and recognition that this facet of life allows for unimaginable possibilities.  The call for self-reliance and community effort, national pride and global citizenry, made sense.  It’s American!  We’re the home of the free, the land of the brave. The genius of Barack Obama is in offering as anodyne for years of threats and warnings, an appeal to our American Spirit to labor for, not against, the impossible,  a brave new future across a long rickety bridge.  When we are no longer in crisis, no one will look back in longing at the dark and dreary country you created, gents. We are an accomplished people, generous and optimistic.  You’re not. I admit that I did enjoy watching Keith Olberman on fire last night in his special comment about Dick’s lowing, mutated remarks to Politico in a February 4th interview regarding President Obama’s proclamation against torture and other Un-Constitutional acts, as the founding fathers intended. You can’t look at these documents like one of your freaky oil contracts, with hidden clauses and contingencies you play to your advantage so you win and, therefore, the other party loses. Kid stuff Dick, frat boy crap at best. The difficult thing is to succeed by the principles of fairness set forth;  liberty and justice for all. If  you are scared Dick, to live in our country with President Obama as Commander In Chief, you are free to leave. That silly rag we call the Constitution didn’t get in your way as you pissed  on the world like it was your fire-hydrant, just take your gun if you pass by the Hague in your travels. The ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ you used on the US Congress (on your buddy Dick Armey, for example) and on the good citizens of these United States to dupe* many into supporting your murderous invasion of a sovereign nation seems like some demented chess-game that you and Rummy never had a chance to finish back in the day. You anticipated, with little regret, the slaughter of not only the innocent people of Iraq, but also of our military men and women without a second thought. Everyone is worth sacrificing for your own small and vicious desires.  What are they again?  You said ‘to be respected’ is important, so  thuggishness and slaughter renders respect for you? Is that cauldron of hatred so fetid inside you that you can no longer even recognize good ?

And Andy Card is so small I can’t even go there (I said tiny already, right?). But you heard it straight from Andy’s A*s, Neckties & Jackets = Democracy.  May I suggest that Intelligence & Compassion = Humanity, and that Humility & Fairness= Equality , six things you can’t buy at Brooks Brothers, Andy. And  the will of free people, to exercise their right to select and form a better government, the arc that bends toward justice. . . never mind. Go f**k-up the Union Pacific Railroad, Andy. I am sure with your priorities, you can make that failing institution die quickly, and in a coat and tie.

BTW, Huffington Post has slide show that shows Jesus Reagan in the Oval Office, in a RED cowboy shirt. That’s RED. I don’t have to tell you what red means.

*On the duping: President Obama (State Senator of Illinois at the time) wasn’t duped by your fear mongering Cheney, millions of us weren’t duped, including me. I have a letter that Congressman Berman (D-CA) wrote to me in response to my letter asking he not vote to authorize President Cheney’s request to use force in Iraq.  I’m still waiting for an apology that is as considered as his defense of the invasion was. I received a non-sensical, platitude-ridden email from Senator Dianne Feinstein,  who voted in favor of using force, and it reads as if she had no choice, as if there had been no Levin Amendment, which would have changed the authorization process completely and could have halted the invasion. The text of Senator Levin’s brief amendment is easy to find online, as is the list of Senators who admitted to not reading the NIE Report entirely.  I mean, reading is tedious, and it’s not as if this vote meant the END OF THE WORLD.

With that, I am pleading for the maximum funding for new schools, new teaching tools, regular refresher courses for teachers, and a balanced and  more comprehensive education for all citizens. It’s all of a sudden “San Francisco” to want the highest standards of education achievable? Oh please let them filibuster in coats and ties while we go to San Francisco in our Birkenstocks to read books.

• I • LOVE • YOU • AMERICA •

My Aim Is True

Is that what you’ve been waiting to hear from me? Because I’m so happy to be able to finally say it and mean it.

First, we haven’t spoken in so long and I need to clear the air. Hear me out and don’t get angry. You turned your back on me and it hurt. It can only help us if I’m honest about how angry  I’ve been feeling. Then, I’ll  leave it on the floor. You were f*cking arrogant for so damn long – conceited in every way. It’s like you’ve expected adoration since birth, unconditional love for no real reason, simply because you exist. Of course that put me off. I’m your type remember? I’m Independent; I speak my mind, which was fine as long as I didn’t rip you. You can’t have it both ways. Yeah, you’re great looking, hot actually, but a pretty face and a nice crib only go so far. You did a lot of stupid sh*t and messed up a lot of people who looked up to you. You used to be all, like, “I’m so exceptional, that’s why I get blamed for everything. . .”  COME ON! Exceptional for sure, in your voracious consumption. Your substance abuse, massive debt, shady friends, insatiable greed, aversion to personal maintenance,  filthy habits, ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude made you a pariah, not just to me, but to my entire family and all my friends. I was ready to leave, go shack up with Bangkok and lick my wounds. Okay, I’m done venting.

And, almost overnight there was the huge shift.  This morning I pinched myself and the reality holds. I honestly didn’t expect such a profound change  - I didn’t think it was possible. I’m astonished. I didn’t think you could do it. I didn’t believe, and I am deeply sorry for that.

You’re turning the ship around, and I’m ready to be there for you. You’re finally taking responsibility for your actions and not blaming everyone else. Courage is fessing up, and you really seem to understand that now. You struggled, you grew, you reached out for help – you changed. You’ve worked so hard to transform yourself and you seem so much happier now, and happy to be generous with the little you have. Kindness suits you and it’s sexy too. Wanna move in together and, uh… well possibly, maybe get married?

Pause.

What? Say what? You’re a woman? How could I not have…?  Well, um, I love you anyway so let’s, um, go for it.  I can deal. I’m game. It’s love, it’s right. And it’s right, and a joy, to commit to the one you love in the eyes of the world. Nothing unnatural about it.

Pause.  Quick, sharp breath intake.

But – hell! Oh wait. Sheesh.  Could it get any worse, any more ironic? The same day I uh, committed my heart to you, they, you, I don’t know  -  passed a Constitutional Amendment banning same sex marriage. It’s a cruel world America and, so typical, so arghhh!  We usually bring on our own troubles. YES WE DID. Has anything really changed then?

I love you and I hope one day I can legally commit to you. I want that right. I think of the ‘Loving v. Virginia’ case, 1967. You remember, even though you were young then. The Supreme Court ruled love could not be restricted by law. The brave Mrs. Loving alone, ONE Voice again, changed everything. This will not stand my love.

Palin pre-empts state report, clears self in probe

By MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writer Fri Oct 10, 3:08 AM ET

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing.   [Of course it clears her, why the heck not? Audacity points, 10. Style points, 0.]

Thanks, but no thanks!

Obama Under Fire For Playing T-Ball During Vietnam

Enjoying Himself Like a Child

The Onion, October 10, 2008

WASHINGTON—At a press conference on Monday, members of the Vietnam Veterans Alliance blasted Democratic nominee Barack Obama for his failure to serve in the Southeast Asian war that ended 33 years ago, alleging that during the conflict the candidate frequently engaged in games of T-ball.

Obama AWOL Just Before a Playdate With Bill Ayers
Obama AWOL, just before a playdate with Bill Ayers

“While our boys were dying in Vietnam, Barack Obama was running around a little league field, laughing and having fun without a care in the world,” VVA spokesman James Lowry said. “John McCain left his wife and three children behind and fought bravely, but I guess Sen. Obama decided that practicing cursive and learning how to ride a bike was just more important than defending his country in her hour of need. I bet he wasn’t even able to point out Vietnam on a map.” Lowry later speculated that if Obama had been sent over to fight in the conflict, he probably would have peed his pants and cried for his mommy as soon as he touched down in Saigon.
