I Finally Got the Dream Christmas gift – The Metaphoric Pony

More Than This, There is Nothing

More Than This, There is Nothing

but this gift has the oratory skills of  Douglass, the wisdom & calm of Gautma, the wile of Golda and Akbar, the compassion of Ghandi and Teresa, the determined, fierce-heartedness of Jane Addams, Anthony, Barton and Tubman, a profound tolerance for over-looking embarrassing, painfully small acts of deceit & cruelty by colleagues & instead extended an offer of partnership and a request for help and a path to, perhaps, greatness as he skillfully identifies a former sparring partner’s strengths & abilities. An Obama Whitehouse hosting lectures on the potential wonders of space study & travel (earth to John McCain!), jazz & poetry readings, buzzing to improve the terminally abject public system in our crime-ridden nation’s capitol is using the house as intended. What a joy. The Obama’s comprehensive vision includes their own careful prioritizing andexhaustive work ethic, cajoling slackers, energizing by being energetic, motivating by demonstrating progress,  encouraging self-reliance & community collaboration that Americans are known for.  All this has been here from Day One.  And the tender compassion for veterans, elders, the poor, the ill, the needy as “I am my brother’s keeper”  Barack repeats. To give more than we think we can because the extra effort is the reward and much is expected from those of us fortunate to have work, food, homes and health.  Americans may again join-in & vitalize a dynamic and positive world we have been deliberately alienated from almost without question until a skinny twit with flappy ears jumped around the DNC Convention Stage in 2004.  He knew it, and makes me proud, strong and confident as well as very, very grateful to be lucky enough to have understood Barack Obama’s idea to lift us up by recalling, just a little, that pioneer spirit, and remind us that courage is an American trait.  Fear is a virus and we have recuperated.

What is ineffably inexplicable is Barack Obama’s faith in us.  He said that he hoped, that he believed, his message to the alienated, hopeless rural and urban youth, the apathetic eye-rolling academics, the handicapped-unhealthy impoverished minorities, the abject addicts and the bored suburban latte-sippers, the party faithful, and party cross-overs would be heard, would make sense and would be acted upon. This motley group was ready to pick themselves up for a change. And we did.
I spent 13 months as a purely ‘fact-based’ campaigner and organizer – none of this hope/change stuff for me. Now, I drink it daily. I see it, hear it and feel it. I know that if we stay involved and work for what we all want, we can climb out of this much stronger together and as real collaborators for peace and progress in the world. Never stop. I will be in DC for the Big Day (born & raised and family remains) and volunteering any place I can. Feel free to contact me either here or my blog, obamabidenusa.org if you might be interested in participating in my TXT message project up thru 1/21. Or just check it out.
Been away for a month so posts are thin of late. The TXT project has been been going since Iowa, scanning is slow and meticulous. I am interested in using the lovely SMS images from my  iPhone as a of diarist tech-speak/disjunctive narrative & perhaps a small chapbook. Use of anyone’s communiques with permissions only of course. No long tomes (like this) required or desired. The best ones I imagine from 1/20 are the absurd, ‘I’m wearing an Obama pin, can’t miss me”. My mom will keep txting she can’t see me on TV. And so on. Any from anywhere in- or outside of DC greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all you’ve done, CA 36, family, friends, animals suffering benign neglect (I miss you Bruce) Out of State ground-pounders, GOTV workers, patient explicators, postcard warriors. To the later and to the excellent Lynn Branco in particular, I know our cards flipped Ohio. My 85 year mom is from Toledo and she knows Toledo alright. She was shocked. Only Indiana surprised me more. So thanks everyone.  Our work has just begun.
